Ryukyu Hon Kenpo Kobujutsu (a.k.a. Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo)

Our primary martial arts system is an Okinawan martial art comprised of two separate but complimentary arts. Ryukyu Hon Kenpo is the weaponless self-defense art handed down via Odo Seikichi (1926-2002) of Okinawa, Japan, which consists of striking with the weapons of the body as well as throws, and joint locks. Odo Seikichi Daisensei also incorporated an extensive Okinawan Kobujustu (weapons) system into his tradition. The traditional weapons practiced in the RHKK dojo are Sai (metal truncheon), Tunfa (wooden mill stone handle), and Rokushaku Bo (six foot staff), to name but a few.

About Our Kata

Traditional forms or kata are used in class as the touchstone for self-defense drills and partner work. Students learn the traditional kata of Okinawa such as the Pinan series, the Naihanchi series, and other classical kata. Likewise, students learn the techniques and applications of traditional weaponry through the traditional weapons kata. Some of these kata include the Sakugawa No Kon staff series, the Odo no Sai series, and other traditional weapons patterns.
